Overview
According to the World Bank, 2 billion people live in countries where development outcomes are affected by fragility, conflict and violence. Sustainable development comes under threat in conflict-affected areas as progress is hindered or even reversed. Furthermore, instability often leads to devastating consequences for women and girls who are disproportionately affected by conflict-situations. Conflicts are also known to perpetuate inequality between men and women.
Peace and stability are also an essential precondition to trade, investment and economic growth. While it is often difficult to quantify the aggregate costs of war, the Global Peace Index has estimated that conflict and violence cost 13.3% of world GDP in 2015.
This webinar will explore why it is particularly important to apply a gender lens to responsible business practices in conflict-affected and high-risk areas, and highlight company practices and tools that can make a positive contribution to the rights of women and girls.
