    • take initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility
    • encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies
This confirms our long-term commitment to the principles of the Global Compact and our desire to play our part in the future of the environment.
Through this Communication on Progress, we are pleased to reaffirm our support for the Global Compact.

Environment
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of environmental protection for the company (i.e. environmental risks and opportunities). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on environmental protection.

  • C. Environmental, energy and safety training
As part of our commitment to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, we have trained all our quality managers to implement environment, energy and safety strategies.
As regards the environment, our first priority is to reduce our ecological footprint by sorting our waste more effectively. We aim to improve our understanding of the nature of our waste and reduce the amount we produce. For example, we have set up trays to help staff reuse and recycle paper:
    • in the first tray, we collect paper suitable to use for rough work,
    • in the second tray, we collect paper that has been printed on both sides and therefore cannot be reused. This paper is recycled.
Simultaneously, we have set up more efficient waste management systems (including sales of plastic waste for reuse in other industries).
    For example:
    • we separate liquid waste into chemicals and grease, so that it can be processed in the appropriate way rather than all being treated as mixed waste.
As regards energy, we are working to reduce our consumption. For example, by:
    • turning off equipment when it is not being used,
    • adjusting heating and air conditioning in buildings.
We are also choosing more energy-efficient solutions when we make investments. For example:
    • clean rooms that run at lower pressures when they are unoccupied to save electricity.
As regards safety, our aim is to make all our staff and partners aware that their actions affect everyone’s safety. For example:
    • external safety audits followed by training to raise staff awareness: site evacuation drills and training.
    3. Environmentally friendly technologies
As part of our environmental policy, we are setting up a waste monitoring system that will help us reduce our environmental impact. Our long-term aim is to reduce our ecological footprint.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement environmental policies, address environmental risks and respond to environmental incidents.

  • B. Environmental, energy and safety training
Plastibell is committed to implementing its safety approach and to giving all staff the information and training they need to learn about safe working practices and implement them.

    3. Environmentally friendly technologies
By monitoring waste and resource consumption, we can measure the ecological footprint of each of our sites. Our aim is to set up a system which will help us to reduce consumption wherever it is feasible to do so. For example, machines could be turned off when a site is closed. Through our system, we will be able to monitor and reduce energy consumption on each site.
In 2015, we used 11,680 tonnes of raw materials in production. This generated 573 tonnes of non-hazardous waste, 112 tonnes of which were recycled. It also generated 23 tonnes of hazardous waste which was processed appropriately, according to its nature and current legislation

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates environmental performance.

  • Non-hazardous waste recycling rate: 19.6%
    Overall waste generation rate: 5.2%
