Description
  • OMV reports in the Sustainability Report 2007-08 that was published together with the Annual Report 2008 on all of its activities in the area of corporate social responsibility. In this way we report simultaneously on both the financial as well as the environmental and social key performance indicators. The OMV Sustainability Report replaces the CSR Performance Reports and HSE Reports of previous years. The print version presents key information on OMV’s sustainability performance. Additional information is provided in the full-length version of the report, available on www.omv.com/sustainability2007-08_en.

The information contained in this report relates to the typical impacts of an oil and gas company on social and environmental sustainability issues. The report takes into account recommendations from stakeholder dialogues and industry associations, as well as disclosure demands by financial analysts and by the general public. The report was prepared with reference to the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), a corporate accounting and reporting standard developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the World Resources Institute (WRI). We self-declare this report to the A+ Application Level of the GRI. This self-declaration was checked and approved by the GRI.

Despite the abundance of obligatory information associated with a sustainability report that meets the requirements of the A+ Application Level of the GRI, it was important to OMV to address all the crucial questions and suggestions of our stakeholders in an appropriate way. The “In the Spotlight” chapter of this report focuses on six topical subjects about which our stakeholders demanded information and explanations in the Stakeholder Fora that take place on a regular basis.

Climate change is a key challenge for an oil and gas company, since the management of greenhouse gas emissions relates to the core business in economic and environmental terms, representing both risks and opportunities. Therefore, climate change is one of the corner stones in our stakeholder dialogue. In 2008, after an intensive discussion process, OMV has communicated a clear commitment to decrease the carbon intensity of activities where OMV is operator with defined targets for direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions. In line with our comitment to the UNGC business leadership initiative “Caring for Climate”, our carbon management addresses strategic and operational levels and is considered in key decisions making processes of our business.
