This report summarizes the activities of the prescription drug and human vaccine businesses of Aventis worldwide as they relate to our journey towards sustainable healthcare, which encompasses not only environmental, health and savety issues but also social, ethical and economic topics of importance to our stakeholders.
This report follows the format stipulated by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2002 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines.
The core strategy of Aventis is to create value for our stakeholders. We have pledged to rapidly develop, launch und successfully offer innovative pharmaceuticals that satisfy the unmet medical needs of large patient populations - and to do it in ways that society accepts. This means acting in an environmentally sound manner; enhancing the appropriate and affordable provision of medical services; facilitating broad access to, and choice of, healthcare products.
The cornerstones of our success are our employees and our commitment to responsible innovation. We are commmitted to being a solid corporate citizen and to operate in a manner that is sustainable environmentally, socially and economically.
This report describes activities undertaken in 2002 that demonstrate Aventis'' commitment to sustainable healthcare. Our 2001 Progress Report started our journey. This year we report on how we are actively engaging our stakeholders and forging partnerships toward the goal of achieving sustainable healthcare.
The report describes our successes, from meeting our 2002 Jounrney to EHS Excellence goals to our support for programs to increase access to medicines. We also discuss the challenges we face in moving from the more intangible policies, visions and values to concrete actions targeted to add value for all our stakeholders inside and outside Aventis.
