Description
  • In the framework of a process of continuous improvement, aimed at pursuing a model of growth which can create a sustainable value and enhance corporate reputation, Eni is placing increasing attention to the need of a more open, clear and correct communication policy on its CSR performance. This attitude reflects Eni''s respect of all its stakeholders, who demand transparency, access to information and increasing involvement in decision making processes.

As a result, in 2003 a number of actions were undertaken to provide information on Eni''s CSR performance and give evidence to this commitment.

    - The Company''s 2003 Annual Report has been designed to clearly illustrate, through a specific section on this matter, the direction along which Eni is moving and the main objectives to be attained. The same issues are also contained in a new institutional brochure, which testifies the Company''s commitment to embedding a culture of sustainability, to promoting innovation and a responsible business conduct.

    - The new Company web portal, launched in June, contains a whole area dedicated to Governance and Corporate Responsibility, which provides a detailed account on how principles and commitments are put into practice and is regularly updated with a whole range of initiatives both under way and planned. The website also contains a communication on progress "Global Compact - Eni''s commitment to sustainable value (Ecos 2/2002)".

    - The 2002 HSE Report illustrated, as been doing for a number of years, decisions taken and actions implemented by Eni to manage its industrial activities in a more efficient and eco-compatible manner and to improve its ability to respond to stakeholders'' expectations concerning environmental sustainability. The report also includes key performance indicators and gives an account on challenges faced as well as on responses provided.

    -------------

In all of Eni''s documents and communication tools the support to Global Compact is reaffirmed and, consistent with the commitment to implementing its nine principles, a number of actions are illustrated.

The actions undertaken support Eni''s effort towards a more correct communication on CSR, which illustrates progress as well as areas where there is scope for further improvement. To this end, attention is paid to how lessons learned have been applied.

These actions aim at improving Eni''s capability of measuring and reporting its CSR performance and pushing our Company to the leading edge of CSR communication.
