    In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. Human Rights

Environment

  • The scope of activity of Ecopack Bulgaria is closely related with environmental protection. Our major goals are:
     Meeting the targets on recovery and recycling in compliance with the national legislation and EU Directives in the sphere of environment protection and waste management;
     Further development and improvement of the established systems for collection, recycling and recovery of the packaging waste and enlarging their territorial scope, thus providing for the highest level of environmental protection and better living conditions for the Bulgarian citizens;
     Provision of public support for the separate collection and recovery of packaging waste and actual involvement of the population in the systems
    The Company is sertified uder ISO 9001 and ISO 14 001.
    Concerning the information and educational campaigns targeted at citizens for promotion of the separate collection and forming of new environmental habits of the society our golas are to provoke the people to collect separately their packaging waste, to again put the focus on the three-colour containers systems, to inform on the benefits of the separate collection and recycling for the preservation of environment and natural resources.
    Concernng the Company internal policy, there are procedures for energy saving, used is only recycled papre and forthcoming is the introaduction of eco drive program

  • • ECOPACK BULGARIA – Information & education Initiatives
    3D Ecobus –is part of the company's efforts to promote responsible attitudes towards the environment and particularly the separate waste collection of packaging among children. The project is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science. Ecopack 3D bus is a modern and mobile center for trainings and presentations, which presents in an interesting and interactive way the problem of separate collection to students from first to fourth grade. The program of 3Dbus is consistent with the interests of children in the age group. The project started in 2011 and so far, over 80 000 students from grade 1 to 4 of 90 schools in 70 municipalities in Bulgaria had the possibility to learn about the separate collection and its benefits in Ecopack eco-bus. Each of the children visited the green hours of Ecopack, receives a gift - seeds of acacia or fir-tree, which he has to plant. Once it became a magnet for hundreds of students, Ecopack 3Dbus opened its doors and for its first adult guests. Corporate training and seminars for separate collection in 3D Ecobus - Employees of companies Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, Phillip Morris, Danone, Gorna Banya and others, had the opportunity to experience mobile company training for the separate waste collection of packaging in 3D Ecobus. The training agenda included a presentation on Ecopack and systems for separate collection, a visit of the separating lines and educational movie “The way of the packaging waste” For all attendees there were brochures with more information about Ecopack and separate collection, as well as special eco-degrees.
    Nationwide organized Eco class for 100 000 children in over 400 schools
    In the beginning of the new school year Ecopack Bulgaria developed and disseminated over 400 sets of instructions for teachers, 680 sets of posters and 70 000 books to over 400 schools in 95 municipalities. The objective of this initiative is to involve over 100 000 kids.
    For that purpose Ecopack Bulgaria published a special book, targeted at children from 1 to 4-th grade. The book introduced the three heroes of recycling: Harti (Paper) Plastika (Plastic) and Stuk (Glass) and the Terrible Garbage who tell the tale of separate collection and recycling, what is a packaging and what is its purpose, how packaging can be recycled and why it's useful and what kids can do themselves of waste materials.
    These books together with instructions for teachers and 10 posters to illustrate the lesson, describing the way of the packaging and the importance of separate collection for the environment, were the basis for the organization of an Eco-class. This initiative was developed with the participation of pedagogical experts as well as with the support of the Ministry of Education. During the lesson the children were informed on the origin of raw materials, interesting facts about recycling, what can be made from waste materials, etc.
    We encouraged the teachers to organize the eco class on regular basis in order to involve as much as possible children. In order to get feedback from the schools, Ecopack is organizing different competitions and contests with prizes for schools on how they organized their eco class – pictures, signed commitments to separate the waste, etc. The newest pilot project implemented in the period December 2013 –January 2014 in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria is called “Become an Eco Hero”. The project covered over 20 000 students (1 to 8 grade) and involved development of sub site with interactive game with questions on separate collection and environmental protection.

    The monitoring is done by several crieteria:
    - incresaed % of recycable packaging waste in the coloured containers;
    - Citizen's attitude towards separate collection recovery and recycling (measured by annual surveys); (from 29 % in 2010 to 54 % in 2013)
    - Number of people reached with the information and education campaigns;
