    Dear our stakeholders,

    I am pleased to confirm that MacCon Public Safety reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption.

    In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to share this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

    As a small business, we have different resources at our disposal to track, monitor, and qualify our progress of advancing the UNGC ten principles in our operations, and as such we appreciate our stakeholders’ commitment and support as we improve our reporting capacity each period. MacCon Public Safety remains dedicated to leading the public safety industry in public transparency, accountability, and generating meaningful change of the highest, most effective standard.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • - Company policy outlined in the code of conduct mandate that every employee must adhere to company policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment, in accordance with Alberta Human Rights Code.

  • - Online and in-person training on workplace harassment and violence, including as a remedial training resource
    - Policies regarding harassment/discrimination in Code of Conduct. Policy for workplace harassment prevention.
    - Complaints of workplace harassment are investigated, all parties are consulted. Complaints, investigation are compiled into a report and sent to general manager or designate, while all relevant instances are reviewed by a joint occupational health and safety committee with managerial and worker elected representatives.
    - Disciplinary actions following complaints of harassment adhere to company disciplinary policy and prescribed based on results of investigation.
    - Code of conduct mandates that all members of the company must adhere to policies and provincial legislation regarding harassment and discrimination.

Labour

  • - Compensation policy states company compensations in accordance with Alberta Employment standards, with an annual review to ensure compliance as feasible with with Alberta Living Wage.
    - Rights and responsibilities policy, outlining employee rights to meaningfully participate in the pursuit of workplace goals and collective bargaining and workplace harassment or violence.
    - Rights and responsibilities policy includes requirement of partners and suppliers to adhere to provincial legislation regarding labor rights and principles.
    - Assessment of labor-related risks are assessed from Worker's Compensation board statistical data for the industry and country, conducted on site by health and safety members and employees.
    - Employees are provided workplace safety training for workers' rights and responsibilities, workplace health and safety safe practices.

  • - Labor complaints come through management, are investigated and policies or procedures are adjusted when necessary to mitigate or eliminate risk. All changes in policy and procedure are communicated with all employees.

Environment

    - Reuse and repair clothing to reduce waste. Buyback programs for reusable duty equipment to reduce waste.

  • - In this reporting period, there have been no environmental incidents, investigations, or legal cases affecting MacCon Public Safety

Anti-Corruption

  • - Anti-corruption is paramount to the effective and meaningful relationship of any Public Safety agency with the citizens and people it serves. As such, MacCon Public Safety has rigorous systems to ensure public trust and confidence is maintained especially in relation to anti-corruption actions.
    - With over 15+ in-depth policies ensuring anti-corruption within the administration, MacCon Public Safety has set the goal and has made great progress in deploying body-worn cameras (BWC) across the entire organization in early 2023. BWC's will serve as a public commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring all member actions are lawful, free of prejudice, and corruption-free.

  • MacCon Public Safety will be deploying body-worn cameras (BWC) across the entire organization in early 2023. BWC's will serve as a public commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring all member actions are lawful, free of prejudice, and corruption-free. These devices have the capability to produce recorded video "after-the-fact", even if the user failed to activate recording during the incident. This provides an additional level of accountability and assurance for meaningfully implementing and addressing corruption risks and improving response capability to concerns or allegations of corruption.

  • - In this reporting period, there have been zero (0) instances of reported or alleged corruption. Annual reviews of all internal and external complaints by senior management ensure that no possible allegation or complaint that could contain elements or components of corruption are missed.
