    I am pleased to confirm that Rec Design reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption.

    In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to share this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • Rec Design acknowledges the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, understanding that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. These principles have been present since Rec Design's foundation.
    Rec Design affirms the freedom of expression and maintains an open field for sharing knowledge and ideas. It is supportive and active in the fight for urgent causes, such as the ones involving gender, race and sexual orientation. It is in favor of affirmative policies of social inclusion through quotas. Rec Design believes that this is a fundamental step to correct the enormous inequality of reality in all its spheres, specially in Brazil, the country where the office was originally created.
    While expanding for the whole world, Rec Design considers the refugee cause extremely urgent. This issue must be discussed by the leaders of developed countries, but also throughout the global society, understanding the complexity of seeking for a safe place and all the integration issues.

  • For the past years, Rec Design has been working on several projects with the UN agencies which aims to advocate and generate awareness in the context of refugees, gender equality, among other causes. Our office believes that good communication design is capable of leading to a better understanding of the world and the global engagement in the direction of a fairer society.

  • All of Rec Design workforce understand that the projects we work on address sensitive causes and, for the reason, the complexity of designing and communicating to a diversified public in several different fields and contexts. At Rec Design, all the team is committed to the values they strongly believe like respect, equality, challenge, learning, justice, openness, quality and creativity. Rec Design’s workforce is composed 100% by women with a proactive, flexible, and understanding mood.

Labour
  • Assessment, policy and goals

  • Rec Design agrees with the ILO Core Convention principles, convinced that social justice is essential to universal and lasting peace and that economic growth is essential but not sufficient to ensure equity, social progress and the eradication of poverty. All of the team and partners were graduated from public universities in Brazil and they endorse the need for public and quality education for all society. They are deeply engaged, affectively and socially, to their local communities. Rec Design believes that its greatest intangible asset and its most valuable brand is the singular way in which the team employs their perception of themselves and the collective in each project.

  • In view of providing a healthy, safe and fair workplace, Rec Design suggests to the employees daily shifts of six hours and 28 vacation days a year. Rec Design also provides the correct equipment for each member of the team and make sure all the needs are met.
    In 2020, Rec Design has started a partnership with a work therapist who is developing an important project with the team.
    The goals are to identify potential inequalities, dissatisfactions or any other issues which might affect the work atmosphere.
    Beyond that, the board is always focused on keeping an open channel for talking and criticism in which equality goes over the position occupied.

  • Important outputs have been coming up from the work developed with the therapist, such as the need for clear and transparent communication from the top board to the entire team.
    In this view, weekly meetings are held, in order to share ideas, experiences and skills.
    Beyond that, finding a better balance for the work, in which each one is in charge, is a constant goal.
    The board is attentive to relevant issues, such as the stress brought by the pandemic and symptoms of fatigue or burnout, as well as the seek for a family-friendly workplace.
    The board is extremely strict with the workload, avoiding as much as possible extra working hours and paying accordingly when it is needed.
    Every six months, collaborators answer a form that aims to identify the issues which might be improved on the workflow and the work atmosphere. In the form, they have an open field to point out what doesn't work well and make suggestions that might contribute to a better workplace to everyone.

Environment

  • The COP 26 held in Glasgow in 2021 exposed that it is time to act. Empty promises are not acceptable at all. Climate change is a reality and the effects, especially for the most vulnerable people, are devastating. Rec Design has had the opportunity to work in relevant projects under this framework which address sensitive issues, such as the disruption of development, the rising people’s vulnerabilities and escalation of gender inequality. Also, these projects have raised alternatives of how these issues should be faced by the world and the role of the insurance sector on nature-related risks globally.
    Rec Design has been always committed to values such as: ethics, respect, diversity and justice. For all of them, sustainability has always been a fundamental aspect affecting directly on social development, preservation of the environment and economic growth. This is the only clear path to move towards a viable future for generations to come.

  • Since Rec Design is essentially a service provider, the actions move towards an awareness raising, bringing up the discussion and incorporating some simple, but proven effective, practices to reduce waste, recycling, conscious use of water and electricity in its daily activity.

  • All the Rec Design's workforce is now home based, which, in a way, contribute for the reduction of gas emissions from the usual transportation facilities.
    Most of our projects are digitally created and shared, avoiding environmental printing costs.

Anti-Corruption

  • Rec Design acknowledges the United Nations Convention against Corruption reaffirming its commitment to prevent and combat the different forms of corruption, such as bribery, trading in influence, abuse of functions, and various acts of corruption in the private sector.

  • In the past years, Rec Design has signed several Long Term Agreements which were held in public auctions on electronic platforms.
    To be able to participate in these auctions, Rec Design had to work with an external accountant which has periodically prepared and audited the office's financial statements.
    The workforce is not exposed to handling financial issues. The contact between collaborators and clients is restricted to the development of the project itself.
    The financial manager is in charge of the admin and financial matters, always shared with the three partners at the office.

  • Rec Design confirms that it has never entered into any improper, illegal, collusive or anti-competitive arrangements with any competitor; has never attempted to influence, or provide any form of personal inducement, reward or benefit to any representative.
    Also, Rec Design confirms that it does not engage in proscribed practices, or any other unethical practice; and that it conducts business in a manner that averts any financial, operational, reputational or other undue risk.
