  • Statement of the company's chief executive (CEO or equivalent) expressing continued support for the Global Compact and renewing the company's ongoing commitment to the initiative and its principles.

  • Through this letter, Ernesto JUAREZ CAJICA, CEO of TEKALT, S.A. DE C.V. will continue to fully support the Global Compact and its principles. In order to renew our membership we will be sending the communication on progress report and the strategies applied in order to ensure the commitments of this initiative.
Tekalt, S.A. de C.V. is a construction company of Electric Power Substations and is a proud member of CMIC (Mexican Chamber of Construction) which places business ethics above all commercial considerations. As new members of the United Nations Global Compact this year our main approach was to raise awareness of the ten principles between Managers and Supervisors and other positions that exercise judgment in determining distribution of work and take immediate action when possible. We will briefly describe our strategies and the outcomes we obtained.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • Our main goal was to raise awareness at the key managerial position of our company such as Project Managers, Team leaders and Partners of the firm in order to fully understand the first two principles of the Global Compact.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement Human Rights policies, address Human Rights risks and respond to Human Rights violations.

  • Meetings with a law firm that fully explained how Human Rights may be violated in our sphere of influence and each employee that were present in these talks committed to respect these principles within their work group.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates performance.

  • Issues that often were disregarded have been now addressed especially conflicts concerning Religion and Freedom of Speech, however these conflicts were scarce during the year. For next year we would like to extend these talks to all of our permanent work force in order to prevent conflicts rather than taking administrative action once they occurred.

Labour
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of labour rights for the company (i.e. labour rights-related risks and opportunities). Description of written policies, public commitments and company goals on labour rights.

  • Tekalt has a strong commitment to its workforce therefore each worker had a personal contract with the company as well as a Union Contract (SUTERM) in which compensations such as food, transportation, health insurance and bonuses were outlined and detailed. We are proud to state that child labor has never been an issue in this company, since for the last 11 years we have been independently audited by the Mexican Social Security (IMSS). However we determined we didn’t had a clear procedure of evaluation while hiring personnel, the department of Human Resources was acknowledged of this issue.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions taken by the company to implement labour policies, address labour risks and respond to labour violations.

  • A formal procedure was created various standardized tests as well as direct interviews with more than one representative of Tekalt were implemented.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates performance.

  • We believe these actions reduce in a significant way personal cognitive bias. For next year we will be implementing an “Equitable pay for comparable work” procedure.

Environment
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of environmental protection for the company (i.e. environmental risks and opportunities). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on environmental protection.

  • Our major footprint is the consumption of fossil fuels therefore we implement a strict maintenance program to our fleet in order to reduce emissions.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement environmental policies, address environmental risks and respond to environmental incidents.

  • Mexican law requires two emission analyses per year per vehicle however our maintenance program was created to go a step further by revising the car at least three times per year.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates environmental performance.

  • This has proven to not only environmentally friendly but also cost effective since repairs and automotive failures dramatically decreased. For next year we will try to implement a recycling program within our offices, as well as digitalizing at least 30% of our documentation to reduce unnecessary printing, finally we will start to require our providers environmentally friendly policies.

Anti-Corruption
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of anti-corruption for the company (i.e. anti-corruption risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on anti-corruption.

  • Similar to the first two principles our first goal was to raise awareness and implement strict procedures to our key managerial personnel, talks on extortion and bribery were given by a law firm.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement anti-corruption policies, address anti-corruption risks and respond to incidents.

  • A zero tolerance policy was adopted in the company and our employees committed to follow procedures on such situations.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates anti-corruption performance.

  • For next year we plan to implement independent audits and a committee that will review the results.
