    Dear your Excellency,

    I am pleased to confirm that Diamond Mercury Group of Companies reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption.

    In this annual Communication on Progress, we describe our actions to continually improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. We also commit to share this information with our stakeholders using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • To contribute the basic needs of employees and peoples nearby business establishment, and not to violate or offend their basic rights as well.
    We feel it as vital importance to enhance the awareness of Human Rights of the managing staffs.
    We wish to send the managerial staffs to international workshop/seminar/training, if we are invited.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement Human Rights policies, address Human Rights risks and respond to Human Rights violations.

  • In the event of the disputes arising in the area of human rights with peoples nearby business establishments, Management has already established policy to make instant and constructive engagement to anybody/association/body to solve the matters.
    In case of the unsolved situation, it will be subject to the negotiation by the local/regional authorities. In case of the continued disputes unsolved, it will be matter of legal proceedings.
    At the same time, measures are taken to open rural clinic where the Government-sponsored Social Security Scheme does not cover.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates performance.

  • Monitoring all development of other business entity.
    So far, there is no complaints from anybody against DAMCO/NRDC to MHRC. Since there is no prescribed methodology to measure the outcome, the periodical survey for the potential violation of human right will be conducted.

Labour
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of labour rights for the company (i.e. labour rights-related risks and opportunities). Description of written policies, public commitments and company goals on labour rights.

  • To be in line with the National Regulation and ILO rules as well.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions taken by the company to implement labour policies, address labour risks and respond to labour violations.

  • DAMCO/NRDC do not exercise gender discrimination for all levels of employees, and did not use child labour at all.

    Coordinated with the Government-sponsored Social Security Scheme for the medical care of employees.

  • Measurement of outcomes
  • Description of how the company monitors and evaluates performance.

  • Monitoring positive and remarkable performance of charity work and medical services established to help workers and peoples nearby.
    For an instance, one lady, with the name of Wai Zin Htwe ( wife of a worker) with 7-month pregnancy, lost conscience due to the general implication.
    NRDC arranged to transport the patient to the hospital in time and her life was rescued. There are many other similar events. NRDC also cooperating with Ministry of Health for the malaria prevention.

Environment
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of environmental protection for the company (i.e. environmental risks and opportunities). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on environmental protection.

  • Myanmar is well known because of her rich tropical forest, and at the same time, the deforestation is a major issue in Myanmar.
    To combat the deforestation, the plantation is one of the measures.
    NRDC is fully committed to enhance the plantation so that the deforestation will be compensated as much as the plantation area is expanded.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions to implement environmental policies, address environmental risks and respond to environmental incidents.

  • Already contracted with Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry for the plantation covering 16250 Acres for 40 years starting from 2008. So far, some 10 000 Acrs have been planted.

  • The achievement of establishing plantation area as per management plan agreed with Forest Department is clear outcome showing the serious dedication to environment.

Anti-Corruption

  • DAMCO is following the business policy in a way of transparency and accountability with any organization and departments (private and public)

  • Quality Assurance, Cost Effectiveness and Customer satisfaction under ethical code of conduct doing transparent business.

  • Because of the strict compliance, DAMCO reached the 54th Position of the 100 Large Tax payer List.
