    IMETAL General Manager Statement

    I am pleased to confirm that Industrias Metalicas IMETAL SA (IMETAL) reaffirms its support of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption.

    In this first annual Communication on Progress, we seek to describe the actions taken to improve the integration of the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture and daily operations. For the next years, IMETAL will do its best to carry out its commitments with the UN Global Compact Initiative with the necessary dedication and responsibility.

    We also commit to share this information using our primary channels of communication.

Human Rights
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of human rights for the company (i.e. human rights risk-assessment). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on Human Rights.

  • Industrias Metalicas IMETAL SA reinforces its commitment to supporting and respecting the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.

    This commitment will be realised within all our projects and within our written policies disseminated both to customers and suppliers.

  • Implementation

  • No Human Rights violations have occurred within the company and no human rights risks have been detected in the past.

    Concrete actions undertaken within IMETAL go in line with ensuring that contracts signed by the company are in compliance with international Human Rights Legislation.

Labour

  • IMETAL realises the importance of company policies which achieve the long term goal of creating a sustainable working environment, and which rely on the importance of workers, the main company asset.

    IMETAL fully endorses the four principles of the United Global Compact relating to labour rights and the social policy of the company tries to demonstrate it by enabling the company to achieve its targets while at the same time offering opportunities to its staff at all levels to develop and grow within the company.

  • Implementation
  • Description of concrete actions taken by the company to implement labour policies, address labour risks and respond to labour violations.

  • The company operates a policy of training and development for workers, who benefit from the possibility of improving their skills through courses and training schemes in different areas of expertise. The line manager and the individual decide through a review process on the areas which should be reinforced and a training scheme is decided, the company thus grow together with the workers.

    Health and safety aspects of the working place are central in order to maintain satisfactory employment conditions. The company has got international management standards in place such as ISO 9001.

    IMETAL carries out a continuous process of consultation with employees in order to learn about their ideas about specific measures which could be undertaken within the company and which could benefit them, like reduced working hours during the summer for example.

Environment
  • Assessment, policy and goals
  • Description of the relevance of environmental protection for the company (i.e. environmental risks and opportunities). Description of policies, public commitments and company goals on environmental protection.

  • IMETAL, within their activities of design and construction of steel structures, acquires on its own and environmental conscience the compromise to minimise the interaction of its daily activity with the environment.

    This compromise is shown with the adoption of an environmental policy in agreement to the respect of the environment which takes to implantation of acting guidelines in accordance with the requirements of the Management Community System and Environmental Audits (EMAS).

  • In relation to environmental issues, IMETAL is committed to the following:

    - Diffusion and application of IMETAL environmental policy
    - Training and sensitisation of employees and subcontracts in our environmental policy
    - Control of energy consumption
    - Application of Available Technical Improvements to our process lines
    - Attention to external interested parties

  • The company evaluates its performance in relation to the goals the company has set in terms of environmental operation:

    - Minimisation in resources consumption through the improvement of production efficiency
    - Minimisation in waste production, discharge and emissions control
    - Optimisation of management of produced waste

    The last goal of our environmental behaviour is the continuous improvement to get a minimum interaction between our activity and the environment. We are aware of the one-to-one relationship between environmental quality and quality of life and we have therefore acquired this determined compromise to respect the environment.

Anti-Corruption

  • IMETAL fully endorses the commitment to the Anti-Corruption Principle:

    - Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

    This commitment will be realised within our own operations and our policies disseminated to customers and suppliers.

  • The company has issued guidelines and procedures with the objective of minimising anti-corruption risks and is committed to the report of all irregularities detected.
