Global Compact Local Networks are well positioned to roll out the global goals to business communities in all regions of the world, to ensure that the SDGs result in tangible and impactful action on the ground.

The XIV Annual Local Network Forum (ALNF) will explore how Local Networks can play a leading role in facilitating private sector engagement on the SDGs. Bringing together 100 Local Network Contact Points and Representatives from around the globe, participants will discuss subjects related to network governance and activities.

    Objectives

    • Increase implementation of the SDG Action Plan
    • Provide a platform for good practice sharing among Local Networks

UN Private Sector Focal Points Network Annual Meeting

The UN is entering an era of unprecedented change, challenge and opportunity. With the arrival of the SDGs and the Agenda for Humanity, and with a new incoming Secretary-General, how will collaboration with the private sector evolve? Against this backdrop, the 2016 Annual Meeting of the UN System Private Sector Focal Points (PSFP) Network will explore how to take UN-Business partnerships to the next level.

In the 2016 Annual Meeting, the PSFP Network and other UN staff tasked with business engagement will convene to highlight trends and recent developments in UN-business collaboration and take stock of efforts to advance implementation of General Assembly Resolution no. 70/224 “Towards Global Partnerships”.

The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Business for Peace Forum 2016, hosted by the American University of Sharjah and organized by the PRME Working Group on Business for Peace, will bring together academics, practitioners, civil society, international organizations and NGOs to discuss cutting-edge academic research on how business can advance peace and highlight areas where further research must be pursued. The focus of this year’s Forum will be on peacebuilding and conflict-sensitive due diligence in alignment with SDG 16.

    Objectives

    • Highlight cutting edge academic research and practical experience on the peacebuilding potential of private sector actions and due diligence mechanisms
    • Explore innovative multi-stakeholder partnership opportunities for peace
    • Inspire and expand the practice of the business for peace community to include academic and "research practitioner" thought leaders

    Business for Peace Annual Event

With the over 65 million people - including over 21 million refugees - displaced by conflict, and a cost of violence at 13.4% of world GDP, never before has it been so urgent to step up efforts in support of peace, and business can play an important supporting role.

The 2016 Business for Peace Annual event is the key convening for business seeking to engage in the peace movement. Organized with the support of Global Compact UAE Network, the event will bring together leaders from business, investment, civil society, governments, the UN and Global Compact Local Networks to work together to move the peace agenda from aspiration to action and identify opportunities for companies to align their strategies with SDG16 –our new universal goal on peace and good governance.

    Objectives

    • Scale-up private sector contributions to peace aligned with SDG16
    • Explore innovative multi-stakeholder partnership opportunities for peace
