Business Coalition: The United Nations Convention against Corruption as a New Market Force

Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the UN
Global Compact, this special private sector event takes place in the context of the Second
Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption being held in
Bali from 28 January to 1 February 2008. In this event, corporate leaders will discuss ways to
redouble efforts to curb corruption and assess current anti-corruption principles vis-à-vis the
fundamental values of the UN Convention against Corruption.

R.I.S.E. VIII (Redefining Investment Strategy Education)

The UN Global Compact will co-sponsor the largest student investment conference R.I.S.E. VIII
(Redefining Investment Strategy Education) at University of Dayton, Ohio. Last year’s conference
attracted more than 1,700 participants from 218 colleges in 58 countries. The three day conference
provides students and faculty with access to a variety of keynote panels, specialized breakout
sessions and workshops, as well as an optional student-managed portfolio competition.
As part of the forum, the University of Dayton (USA) and Loyola Institute of Business
Administration (India), in conjunction with R.I.S.E. VIII, are presenting “Mindful Leadership”, a
national level competition for graduate and undergraduate students in India. The “Mindful
Leadership” competition, based on the Global Compact’s principles, provides a platform for students
to contribute meaningful ideas and initiatives to combat challenges faced in today’s business
environment.

Global Business Summit for the Environment (B4E)

US Network Conference: Business and Human Rights

The Global Compact's US Network will convene its first meeting of 2008 on the topic of "Business
and Human Rights", in recognition of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights. The meeting is timed to coincide with the Ceres annual conference also being held in
Boston. The "Business and Human Rights" meeting will delve into areas such as: understanding
business risks regarding human rights; developing a human rights policy for your organization; and
monitoring and reporting progress. Presenters will include managers of companies at the forefront
of these issues, as well as thought-leaders at non-profit organizations, the United Nations and
Harvard University. Attendees will also participate in an interactive case study discussion about
business and human rights, facilitated by a Harvard Business School professor.
The conference will feature two distinguished keynote speakers: Mary Robinson, former
President of Ireland and current Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders, and Professor John
Ruggie, Harvard University.

assessing and sharing information on progress towards those goals.
3. Provide practical guidance, including notable tools and resources, that

Third International CSR Conference "Corporate Responsibility and Governance"

First General Meeting of Caring for Climate Signatories
