Supported by the Global Compact the event will be hosted by ECOSOC and organized by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs with the United Nations Office for Partnerships (UNOP) in collaboration with the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) and the United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM).

The Human Rights Working Group (HRWG) will provide input on new draft guidance for business on how to write a Human Rights Policy -whether stand alone or integrated into a code of conduct- and on human rights reporting. Finally, the HRWG will seek input on the research currently underway by the Global Compact Netherlands Network and several multinational companies to compare business practices in conducting human rights due diligence to the SRSG's recommended approach. Preliminary results from an assessment of human rights due diligence processes conducted by the Institute will be shared.Human rights due diligence is the process by which companies become aware of, prevent, and mitigate adverse human rights impacts and thereby operationalize the "respect" component of the human rights principles of the UN Global Compact.

The Global Compact and the Principle for Responsible Investment (PRI) Initiative will convene this webinar to provide participants the opportunity to learn more about the Guidance and how it can be used. The webinar is mainly targeted to companies and investors with business interests/operations in high-risk operating environments. The value of the Guidance will be presented, as well as its nature and content. How the Guidance can be used will be highlighted through brief presentations both by a company and an investor. It is anticipated that a pilot group of companies and investors willing to use/implement the Guidance and report back on lessons learned will be established.
