(New York, 14 November 2008) – Caring for Climate – a platform for UN Global Compact participants that seek to demonstrate leadership on climate change – has now reached 300 signatories. The Spanish utility Endesa was the latest company to join. The total number of signatories has nearly doubled since the platform's launch by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the 2007 Global Compact Leaders Summit.
Caring for Climate provides a framework for business leaders to advance practical solutions on climate change and to shape public policy as well as public attitudes. The initiative has grown to become one of the largest and most diverse of it kind, with corporate signatories from over 60 countries around the world, representing 27 industry sectors.
Caring for Climate is a joint initiative of the UN Global Compact, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
