(New York, 11 November 2008) - UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro today met with the Board of the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) and emphasized the relevancy of the PRI in light of the global financial crisis.
The Deputy Secretary-General stated: "It is our firm belief that the tenets and principles of the PRI and related initiatives such as the UN Global Compact and UNEP FI are more important than ever. A main priority in responding to the financial crisis must be to restore confidence and trust in financial markets and the private sector. Ethical globalization and corporate responsibility are a central part of this".
The Deputy Secretary-General acknowledged the dramatic growth of the PRI, which today stands as the world's largest responsible investment initiative with more than 450 signatories representing approximately $15 trillion in assets. The PRI was co-launched by the UN Global Compact and UNEP FI in April 2006.
