(Bonn, 22 October 2008) – Representatives from over 70 Global Compact Local Networks gathered in Bonn for two days for the 6th Annual Local Networks Forum (ALNF) to share experiences in their efforts to advance the Global Compact at the local level. It was the largest ALNF to date, with 220 network participants, as well as representatives from business, government, civil society and labour.
Notably, important decisions were taken by network representatives that aim to strengthen the governance and capacity of these critical local operations, including the introduction of an annual agreement to operate a Global Compact network based on minimum criteria being met. Additionally, Local Networks have agreed to develop working groups on Communications on Progress, participation of micro enterprises and the role of local civil society organizations.
The ALNF was convened by Fundació Fòrum - Barcelona Center for the Support of
the UN Global Compact and the UN Global Compact Office (GCO) with the collaboration of Deutsche
Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH commissioned by the German Federal Ministry
