(New York, 24 September 2006) – On the occasion of the Secretary-General’s High Level Event on Climate Change, held on 24 September at UN Headquarters in New York, the Governments of Kenya, Indonesia, Poland and Denmark hosted a side event entitled “Global Voices on Climate Change”, providing an opportunity for business and civil society leaders to present their perspectives on the issue.
Representing the business community, Dr. Annie Wu, Vice Chairman of the Greater China World Trade Centres Association, outlined the climate challenges Hong Kong faces and actions taken by policy makers and the business community. Dr. Wu stressed that any effective response to climate change requires the collective efforts of governments, business and civil society. “The most successful reforms are people-led and government-supported”, she said.
