(New York, 20 June 2007) - The UN Global Compact Office is pleased to announce that it has appointed Dr. Kernaghan Webb as its Special Advisor on ISO (the International Organization for Standardization), effective 20 June 2007.

Dr. Webb will provide strategic guidance on the UN Global Compact's involvement in the ISO 26000 (Social Responsibility) standards development process, and represent the Global Compact at ISO meetings and other related interactions with relevant stakeholders.

Dr. Webb is a Professor of Law at Ryerson University's Faculty of Business, in Toronto, Canada. He has wide-ranging experience in national and international standards. Georg Kell, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Office, said about the appointment: “I am delighted that Kernaghan has joined our team. His unique combination of experience and understanding of the ISO standards process complements the talents and capabilities of our other team members. Our hope is that ISO 26000 will become a useful product for the implementation of the Global Compact.  We also hope the appointment will help to further build on the effective relationship that we have already established with ISO.”
