(New York, 20 March 2007) - A pilot e-learning course for companies on Human Rights and Business, produced for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) by the UN System Staff College, in consultation with the Global Compact Office, has been launched today. The tool is intended to assist managers and corporate responsibility professionals in companies participating in the UN Global Compact to understand what human rights are and how they are relevant to their business operations, in particular in relation to the two Global Compact principles.
The interactive web-based tool focuses on the two human rights principles and related concepts of spheres of influence and complicity, and includes links, exercises and case studies designed to help the participant understand the various concepts presented.
Feedback on the current draft version from Global Compact participants and other stakeholders is welcomed for the next two months, after which the tool will be finalized and officially launched at the Global Compact Leaders Summit. Comments and suggestions must be sent to email@example.com or faxed to +41 22 917 9010 before 15 May 2007.
