Wilton Park Conference Addresses Business and Human Rights

2005-10-16

Experts on business and human rights from around the world and from a wide variety of stakeholder groups came together at Wilton Park, UK on 10-12 October for a conference on “Business and Human Rights: Advancing the Agenda”. The meeting aimed to clarify key concepts in the business and human rights debate, such as sphere of influence and complicity. Participants also addressed the contribution of voluntary initiatives and approaches and discussed how to take the business and human rights agenda forward. One of the major objectives of the event was to contribute to the work that will be undertaken by Professor John G. Ruggie, who has recently been appointed Special Representative on the Issue of Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

A conference report is forthcoming.
