Caring for Climate: Third Meeting of Signatories

The UN Global Compact's Caring for Climate initiative convened its third conference of signatories and stakeholders – an event that drew more than 100 senior representatives from business, civil society, Government, the UN and other interests. Focused on business contributions to global sustainability ahead of Rio+20, participants discussed ways to advance the initiative’s current workstreams – climate and development and low carbon leaders – as well as collective ways to address the climate-water-energy nexus.

Business for Enviroment (B4E) 2010

22–23 April 2010
Seoul, South Korea

Nearly 1000 participants from more than 35 countries attended the fourth annual Business for the Environment Global Summit (“B4E”), an event hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme, the UN Global Compact, and the World Wildlife Fund. The event coincided with Earth Day 2010. Gathering at the event, corporate executives and entrepreneurs joined leaders from governments, international agencies, and civil society. A new sustainability pact was forged to advance solutions and approaches energy efficiency, green-growth strategies, water stewardship and clean-tech innovations.

 

Caring for Climate: Second Meeting of Signatories

The UN Global Compact's Caring for Climate initiative convened its second conference of signatories and stakeholders -- an event that included approximately 100 senior representatives from business, finance, the public sector and United Nations, as well as civil society. Coming after Copenhagen, this conference provided an important platform for companies to demonstrate their continued commitment to addressing climate change.

The UN Leadership Forum on Climate Change

An integral part of the Secretary-General's Summit on Climate Change, the Forum brought together Government, Business, Civil Society and the UN to discuss how to build positive momentum for climate negotiations and how business can be part of the solution.

 

World Business Summit on Climate Change

24–26 May 2009
Copenhagen, Denmark

 

The World Business Summit on Climate Change, convened by the Copenhagen Climate Council in cooperation with the UN Global Compact and five other organizations was held six months prior to the UN climate conference (COP 15). At the Summit, chief executives put forward recommendations for the next international framework on climate change. The summit also addressed the role of business in helping solve the climate crisis.

The Climate Imperative, Innovation and Technology

Business for the Environment (B4E) 2009 highlighted the most urgent environmental challenges facing the world today and discussed business-driven solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change. Representatives from business, governments, international agencies and civil society were present.

 

Third CEO Water Mandate Working Conference

Istanbul,Turkey

The United Nations Global Compact, in collaboration with the Pacific Institute, convened the CEO Water Mandate’s third working conference during the Fifth World Water Forum in Istanbul. In addition to the multi-stakeholder workshop, the Mandate held three other events: a seminar on the initiative’s Transparency Framework and a general informational session about the initiative, along with a planning meeting for endorsers.

 

First General Meeting of Caring for Climate Signatories

20–21 October 2008
Geneva, Switzerland

The UN Global Compact in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) convened the first meeting of Caring for Climate signatories on 20-21 October 2008 at UN Headquarters in Geneva. The meeting brought together 150 business executives, government representatives, UN officials and climate experts involved in designing the post-Kyoto climate framework.

 

Second CEO Water Mandate Working Conference

The United Nations Global Compact, in collaboration with the Pacific Institute, convened the CEO Water Mandate’s second working conference during World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden. The conference’s overarching goals were to explore 1) how to understand and address water impacts and risks embedded within companies’ supply chains and 2) how to ensure that the Mandate and its endorsers are transparent with respect to water use and impacts

Inaugural CEO Water Mandate Working Conference

The United Nations Global Compact, in partnership with the Pacific Institute, convened the inaugural working conference of The CEO Water Mandate. The conference, held at UN Headquarters in New York, brought together senior representatives from numerous corporations, as well as policy leaders from civil society organizations, UN agencies as well as specialized water institutes.
