Update: Following the adoption of the Caring for Climate work plan for 2010-2012, Caring for Climate has several new engagement opportunities in the upcoming months. Learn more...
Caring for Climate is the UN Global Compact and United Nations Environment Programme’s voluntary initiative aimed at advancing the role of business in addressing climate change. The initiative was launched in 2007 with a view to mobilize a critical mass of business leaders to implement climate change solutions and help shape international public policy.

Chief executive officers who support the statement are prepared to set goals, develop and expand strategies and practices, and to publicly disclose emissions as part of their existing disclosure commitment within the UN Global Compact framework, that is, the Communication on Progress.

Caring for Climate is a unique initiative – a commitment to action by business and a call to governments, incorporating transparency. It offers an interface for business and governments at the global level, with the potential of rapidly becoming the leading platform for pragmatic business solutions -- transcending national interests and responding to the global nature of the issue at stake. Moreover, the broad geographical spread of its supporters, involving both leading actors from developed and emerging economies, reinforces the novel nature of this engagement platform.

How to Endorse Caring for Climate

The Global Compact and UNEP are inviting all business participants to join Caring for Climate by signing the Statement below. It is hoped that a significant number of business leaders will support the initiative, thereby expressing the urgent need for businesses, governments and citizens to take steps to address climate change. Companies supporting the Statement will be recognized on the UN Global Compact website and in the report of actions taken by signatories. A company’s decision to endorse the Statement follows the Global Compact’s established leadership model and requires CEO-level support. To express your support for the Statement, please send an email to climatechange@unglobalcompact.org indicating your endorsement.
