The sixth annual Women’s Equality Principles (WEPs) event, Gender Equality and the Global Jobs Challenge, will spotlight business strategies, experience and challenges on increasing and enhancing job opportunities for women and expanding access to decent jobs. With more than 600 CEO signatories worldwide, the WEPs, a joint initiative of UN Women and the Global Compact, provide a roadmap for companies to advance and empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community. This event at United Nations Headquarters brings together the experience of leading stakeholders from business, Government and civil society to strengthen local and global solutions.

The next annual stock-taking event of the Children's Rights and Business Principles will be hosted by UN Global Compact, UNICEF and Save the Children. The event will invite business and other key stakeholders from the region and internally to take stock of how the Principles have been operationalized to advance company efforts to respect and support children's rights in the workplace, marketplace, community and environment and to identify areas for improvement.

Hosted by the Global Compact, First Peoples Worldwide, and Future500, this workshop is designed to provide corporate participants with tools to reduce risk and strengthen genuine engagement with indigenous peoples. Attendees may also have the opportunity to attend a side event of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) (21 May) where the Business Guide to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples will be presented. The UN System Private Sector Focal Points (PSFP) Meeting and the Annual Local Networks Forum (ALNF) will be convened alongside one another reflecting the Global Compact’s goal to better engage the private sector in taking action in pursuit of UN goals and issues at the country level. Held each year, the PSFP Meeting aims to enhance communication, strengthen learning and improve coordination among UN staff working with the private sector, and the ALNF brings together representatives from Local Networks and companies to share their experiences and network.

 

14th Meeting of the UN Global Compact Working Group on the 10th Principle against Corruption

Global Compact Consultative Meeting with Industry and Trade Associations

Industry groups and trade associations play an important role in advancing sustainable development by promoting corporate sustainability among members and supporting policies that further sustainable development objectives. The Global Compact Consultative Meeting with Industry Associations will provide a venue for global and national industry associations to come together to review industry progress on the promotion of corporate sustainability and discuss emerging sustainable development issues that are relevant to business and industry sector.

 

United Nations Private Sector Forum

Since 2008, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has convened the UN Private Sector Forum during the opening session of the General Assembly in order to bring the voice of the private sector to inter-governmental negotiations on key topics. The UN Private Sector Forum will convene approximately 300 Heads of State and Government, Chief Executive Officers, Civil Society Leaders and Heads of UN Agencies during the UN Climate Summit. Participation is by invitation only.

2014 Sustainable Stock Exchange Global Dialogue and UNCTAD World Investment Forum

The Sustainable Stock Exchanges 2014 Global Dialogue (SSE 2014) on 14 October, will be held during the UNCTAD World Investment Forum (13-16 October). SSE 2014 provides a unique, high-level platform to explore how the world’s exchanges can work together with investors and companies, regulators and policy makers to enhance corporate transparency and performance on ESG practices, and encourage responsible long-term approaches to investment. A limited number of seats at the central roundtable are available to C-suite representatives of Global Compact business participants. Private Sustainability Finance: Leveraging Private Finance for Sustainable Development

As the conversations on financing sustainable development take an increasingly central role, the private sector is recognized as an essential actor. Investors, companies and foundations are working together to address sustainability challenges and have the potential to redirect significant volumes of investment. Public action will also be required through the right incentives and regulations. Ath this meeting, investors, companies, foundations and Governments will discuss ways increase the adoption of sustainability considerations in investment decisions. The aim of the meeting is to identify and promote ways to maximize the impact of private investment in sustainable development.

Social Enterprise Collaboration Lab – Brazil

The event will convene social businesses (social enterprises), corporations, investors and other stakeholders with a shared interest in evolving business and partnership models to address water and sanitation (WASH) challenges in Brazil are invited to attend this event. Participants will learn about current corporate-social enterprise collaborations that generate social and economic impact, will explore approaches to mitigate challenges in the formation of corporate-social business partnerships and will connect to a set of resources that promote WASH-related corporate-social enterprise partnerships in Brazil. The Brazil Collaboration Lab will be convened by the UN Global Compact, Global Compact Network Brazil and Venture Partners do Brasil.

Caring for Climate Business Forum

The annual Caring for Climate Business Forum during COP20/CMP10. 10th Principle Anniversary Event

2014 marks the 10 year anniversary of the introduction of the Global Compact principle against corruption. The Global Compact will recognize this milestone by convening an anniversary event that highlights private sector successes in the fight against corruption and presents areas for future action, particularly in the context of the post-2015 development agenda. This anniversary celebration will take place on 10 December. The event will be preceded by a meeting of the Working Group on the 10th Principle against Corruption on 9 December.
